  • Diabetes
  • Stroke

Patients are now recalled for these reviews on their month of birth.

Additional Services

  • Cervical Smear - From 6 June 2016 the eligible age range for cervical screening and frequency of screening changed in Scotland. The eligible age range is now 25-64 years and up to 70 for women on non-routine follow-up. Woman aged 25-49 will be called routinely every three years and those aged 50 and over will be called every five years. Women already in the screening programme under the age of 25 will continue to be included in the eligible cohort for screening. Unless clinically indicated, women who have been called by SCCRS for screening should have a test taken. Smear test appointments can be made with the Practice Nurse
  • Contraceptive services
  • Breast Screening - We participate in the National Breast Screening Programme. All female patients between the ages of 50 and 70 are offered mammography every three years.
  • Maternity - Once you have a positive pregnancy test, please contact the Midwife on 0141 232 4005 to arrange your first appointment
  • Multiple Sclerosis Annual Reviews - Patients are invited to an annual review at the surgery. This is managed by an MS Support Worker from Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.
  • Smoking Cessation Advice - Smoking Cessation advice and help is available from any of the Doctors, Practice Nurse or the local pharmacies. You can also self-refer to South Glasgow Smokefree Team at Castlemilk Health Centre on 0800 028 5208 Or 0141 232 4581.
  • Child immunisations - The clinics are held externally and organised according to the formal Health Board recall system. Appointments are sent by post.
  • Glasgow Childhood Immunisation information line - 0141 577 7774.

    • Influenza Immunisations - We hold an annual flu immunisation programme to protect all patients over 65 and those clinically at risk. Patients will be advised when these clinics will take place
    • Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

      • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
      • Insurance claim forms
      • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
      • Private sick notes
      • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

    • Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

      Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

    • Statement of Fitness for Work

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

More information regarding this can be found on the HMRC website.

    • Test Results

We no longer take bloods at the surgery. There is a new Phlebotomy service and G44 patients will attend Castlemilk Health Centre and G73 patients will attend Rutherglen Health Centre. Paperwork will be given to you to attend the Plebotomy service after a GP has authorised any blood tests.

It is important for each patient to make sure that results of investigations (blood test/scans/xrays) are always received by the patient either by telephone or subsequent consultation with the doctor. All patients need to contact the surgery after 2pm for their results.

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results therefore it is your responsibility to check them and make any necessary follow-up appointment with the doctor.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

    • Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to fill out a travel vaccination form before making an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

Travel Vaccination forms and Travel Clinic information Sheets are available from Reception.

You must do this between 6-8 weeks before travel, otherwise we advise you to contact a Travel Clinic for advice and any vaccinations.

Travel vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

    • Minor Injuries Unit

For patients aged 5 years and over the Minor Injuries Unit is located at the New Victoria, 0900 – 2100 seven days a week. Please attend this unit if you have injuries such as cuts, minor burns, sprains or if you are unsure if you have broken a bone.

Children under 5 years should be taken to the Royal Hospital for Children at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
